Burlingame's five-member City Council will sit down Tuesday evening to interview candidates for the Beautification Commission.
The special session is set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, in Conference Room A at Burlingame City Hall, 501 Primrose Road, according to the city's meeting agenda. The meeting is separate from the council's regular session Monday, Oct. 19.
The interview agenda does not name the applicants.
The agenda lists Mayor Michael Brownrigg, Vice Mayor Andrea Pappajohn and council members Donna Colson, Desiree Thayer and Peter Stevenson. It calls for the council to discuss candidate questions, conduct interviews and optionally discuss the candidates before adjourning.
What the commission does
The Beautification Commission was first appointed by the City Council in 1968, according to a city document outlining commissioner duties. It hears appeals of staff decisions concerning tree removals and advises city officials about public trees and protected trees on private property.
The commission provides input on downtown business district landscaping, recommends plans for public parks and city-owned buildings, and hands out annual awards for business landscaping and residential sustainable landscaping.
Richard Kirchner chairs the commission. Carol Batte, Marcia Bauer and Sean Chu serve as members, according to the city's Beautification Commission page. Members serve three-year terms.
