Burlingame High's varsity girls volleyball team beat Capuchino in four sets on the road Thursday, Oct. 15, improving to 8-3 in Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division play and 19-10 overall.
The Panthers sit in third place in the Bay Division standings with three league matches left, according to the team's MaxPreps schedule page.
The 3-1 road victory was a needed rebound. Burlingame had dropped two of its previous three league matches, losing in five sets to Aragon at home on Tuesday, Oct. 13, and falling in four sets at Menlo-Atherton on Tuesday, Oct. 6. The Aragon loss was particularly tight, going the full five sets.
Between those defeats, the Panthers swept Hillsdale 3-0 at home on Thursday, Oct. 8.
Thursday's result gave Burlingame a one-match winning streak heading into the final stretch. It was also the second time this season the Panthers beat Capuchino in league play. Burlingame won the first league meeting at home on Sept. 22 in five sets. The Panthers also beat Capuchino 2-0 in a Sept. 26 tournament match.
Through 29 matches, the Panthers hold a 6-3 record at home and a 4-3 mark on the road. They have won 55 sets against 35 losses on the season.
Burlingame's league schedule started strong with wins over Menlo-Atherton and Hillsdale in September before a four-set loss at Aragon on Sept. 17 handed the Panthers their first Bay Division defeat. The team rattled off four straight league wins after that — including a Sept. 24 victory at Carlmont — before the October losses to Menlo-Atherton and Aragon tightened the standings.
Three matches remain. Burlingame hosts Carlmont on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 5:45 p.m., then travels to Sequoia on Thursday, Oct. 22. The regular season wraps up at home against Half Moon Bay on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
