A Burlingame High School graduate will manage on baseball's biggest youth stage when Cory Edwards leads Paseo Verde Little League of Henderson, Nevada, into the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Edwards, a 2006 BHS graduate and San Bruno native, takes his squad into its opening game against West Side Little League of Hamilton, Ohio, on Thursday, Aug. 20. The game was originally set for 11 a.m. Pacific but pushed back four hours to 3 p.m. Pacific because of weather, still on ESPN.
Burlingame High School Athletics announced the news on X on Tuesday, Aug. 18, calling Edwards one of its own alumni heading to Williamsport as manager.
Paseo Verde earned its spot by going 6-0 in the postseason, capping the run with a 9-2 victory over Billings Big Sky Little League of Montana in the Mountain Region championship on Friday, Aug. 14. The team also beat Wyoming 12-0 and edged Utah 4-3 along the way.
This marks Paseo Verde's second trip to Williamsport in three years, according to KTNV. The program also competed in 2024, finishing 2-2.
Edwards told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Aug. 13 that he had been quietly preparing for months, noting he sought permission from his employer as early as April in case the team advanced. He said he has kept his players focused on one game at a time rather than the magnitude of the tournament.
"At the end of the day, they're 12-year-old kids," Edwards told the Review-Journal. "You've just got to play that team in that moment."
The roster features outfielder Carsynn Meyer, described as the only girl competing in any region of the Little League postseason, and utility player Theo Bingham, son of UNLV women's soccer coach Kacey Bingham. Pitcher Payton Hinsen, who returned from eye surgery for a depth perception problem, has become a key contributor. Eight Paseo Verde batters were hitting .400 or better heading into the tournament, and three pitchers carried ERAs of 2.25 or lower.
Edwards attended Burlingame High from 2003 to 2006 before eventually relocating to Nevada, where he manages one of the state's top youth baseball programs. Nevada has sent four teams to the LLWS since 2014.
The 2026 Little League World Series runs Wednesday, Aug. 19, through Sunday, Aug. 30, with the championship game on ABC.
