San Mateo County Parks will not close Cañada Road to motor vehicles on Sunday, Oct. 11, canceling the weekly Bicycle Sunday event because of staffing shortages.
The 3.8-mile stretch between the Filoli entrance and Highway 92, normally reserved for cyclists, joggers, skaters and walkers each Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will stay open to cars. The county's announcement noted the Indigenous Peoples/Columbus Day holiday weekend but cited staffing as the cause. The county has not publicly detailed the shortage or said whether it could affect additional dates.
Two more Bicycle Sunday cancellations are already scheduled:
- Sunday, Nov. 29 — Thanksgiving holiday weekend
- Sunday, Dec. 27 — Christmas holiday weekend
San Mateo County Parks asks bicyclists and motorists to share the road on canceled Sundays. Schedule updates are posted on the county's Bicycle Sunday program page, or residents can call the Parks District Office at (650) 851-1210.
