Burlingame Intermediate School students who want to act, build sets or design costumes for this fall's production of "Peter and the Starcatcher" must apply by Monday, Sept. 7, according to the school's announcement.

The Tony Award-winning play, written by Rick Elice with music by Wayne Barker, reimagines how a miserable orphan becomes Peter Pan. Based on the best-selling novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, the show features pirates, a mysterious trunk of "starstuff" and imaginative stagecraft that allows a dozen actors to portray more than 100 characters.

BIS counselor Jennifer Ibos will direct, with Ginelle Ibos as assistant director. Ibos has directed the school's fall play and spring musical each year, including last fall's "The Knights of the Rad Table" and the spring 2026 production of "Mary Poppins JR."

The production is entirely student-run. Beyond acting roles, students can sign up for behind-the-scenes jobs including lighting, costume design, prop master and publicity.

The Burlingame Community for Education Foundation helps fund the BIS theater program each year through its annual grant to the Burlingame School District. BCE is marking its 45th anniversary this fall with a fundraising drive that supports performing arts, music, PE and world languages across district schools. Nathan Hopkins, a BIS eighth grader whose winning artwork will appear on BCE lawn signs this fall, noted the connection in an Aug. 21 BCE Foundation article: "I wanted it to be simple, colorful, and show all the things BCE helps make possible at my school, like music, PE, the plays and musicals, and Spanish and Mandarin."

Performances are set for Thursday, Oct. 22, and Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m., with a Saturday, Oct. 24 matinee at 2 p.m., according to the production page — in line with last fall's play, which also ran in late October.
