West Coast Dance and Fitness is seeking to expand its Cowan Road studio by about two-thirds through a conditional use permit considered by the Burlingame Planning Commission on Monday, Aug. 24.

The application, CUP26-0003, would allow the dance and fitness studio to expand from its existing 5,460-square-foot tenant space into an adjacent 3,640-square-foot space, bringing the total to 9,100 square feet.

City planning staff recommended that the Planning Commission approve the permit as conditioned, according to the Aug. 24 meeting agenda.

As of Tuesday, Aug. 25, the city's Legistar page listed the meeting minutes as draft and said actions taken and their results were not yet available. The public record therefore does not yet confirm whether commissioners approved, denied or modified the permit.

Associate Planner Brittany Xiao handled the city's review of the application. The commissioners listed for the meeting were Chair Walker Shores, Vice Chair John Schmid, Chris Horan, Sean Lowenthal and Jennifer Pfaff.

The project was determined to be categorically exempt from California Environmental Quality Act review under Section 15301(a) of the CEQA Guidelines, which applies to certain minor alterations to existing facilities.

The building at 890 Cowan Road totals 36,282 square feet and includes 104 parking spaces on a 91,804-square-foot site in the Innovation Industrial zoning district.

Airport Service Center owns the property, and RSS Architecture Inc. is listed as the architect for the proposed expansion.

The Planning Commission's agenda states that any action taken Aug. 24 would be appealable to the Burlingame City Council within 10 days. If an action is not appealed or called up for review by the council by 5 p.m. Sept. 3, it becomes final.

The city has not yet posted finalized minutes or an official result for CUP26-0003.
