SamTrans is looking for San Mateo County residents to join the Paratransit Advisory Council, a volunteer body that monitors accessible transit for riders with disabilities.
The transit agency announced Oct. 27 that it is recruiting new members for the council, known as the PAC. The group works to ensure paratransit services comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, advocates for riders at the local and state level and monitors the performance of Redi-Wheels, SamTrans’ curb-to-curb paratransit service on the Bay side of the county.
Redi-Wheels serves communities including Burlingame and Hillsborough. A separate service, RediCoast, covers the county’s coastal areas.
The PAC welcomes paratransit riders, representatives of agencies serving seniors and people with disabilities, paratransit providers and other interested community members. The council was founded in 1977, according to the PAC’s website. SamTrans itself launched Redi-Wheels that same year, 14 years before the ADA required paratransit service, according to SamTrans’ anniversary history.
