Paseo Verde Little League of Henderson, Nevada, managed by Burlingame High School graduate Cory Edwards, fell to Curaçao 11-2 in the 2026 Little League World Series championship game Sunday, Aug. 30, in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Edwards, a 2006 BHS graduate, coached his own son Logan on a team that went unbeaten through the U.S. bracket before running into Curaçao's Pariba Little League in the final, KTNV reported.

On the way to the title game, Paseo Verde walked off Ohio in their opener, shut out Washington, beat Iowa 14-6 in a game that included 15 combined runs in the sixth inning, and defeated Ohio a second time, according to the Burlingame High athletics website. The Iowa win came against a pitcher who entered with a 0.00 ERA, 25 strikeouts and nine innings pitched.

On Saturday, Aug. 29, Paseo Verde clinched the United States championship with a 12-2 win over West Side Little League of Hamilton, Ohio. That made Nevada the U.S. champion for the second straight year, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Summerlin South Little League won the U.S. title in 2025.

In Sunday, Aug. 30's championship, Paseo Verde's Maddox Bryan hit a two-run single in the bottom of the second to put Nevada ahead 2-0, MLB.com reported.

Curaçao answered right away, tying the game with two runs in the top of the third and taking a 4-2 lead with two more in the fourth. A four-run fifth inning, capped by Juriënsly De Windt's bases-loaded double, put Curaçao ahead 8-2. Three more runs in the sixth, on a wild pitch and a passed ball, capped the scoring at 11-2.

The game also produced a milestone. Paseo Verde outfielder Carsynn Meyer became the first American girl to play in a Little League World Series championship game, according to MLB.com. She was only the second girl to appear in the title game, after Japan's Sayaka Tsushima in 1998.

Edwards joins fellow BHS alumnus Scott Feldman, Class of 2001, on a short list of Panthers who have competed on baseball's biggest stages. Feldman reached the Major League Baseball World Series with the Texas Rangers in 2011.

Paseo Verde had previously appeared in the LLWS in 2024, finishing 2-2, according to 8 News Now. A parade in Henderson is in the works to celebrate the team's 2026 run.
