The City of Burlingame and the League of Women Voters will co-host a City Council candidate forum Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
The event covers Districts 1, 3 and 5, all on the Nov. 3 ballot. District 3 is the only contested race. Howard Wettan and Jen Faber are competing for the District 3 seat.
Vice Mayor Andrea Pappajohn, the sole District 1 candidate, will not attend. The city's meeting agenda cited unforeseen circumstances but gave no further explanation. Pappajohn is running unopposed for a full term expiring in 2030.
Councilmember Peter Stevenson, the incumbent running unopposed in District 5, is scheduled to appear.
The District 3 race
Wettan, listed on the ballot as "City Commissioner/Attorney," has served roughly 10 years on the Burlingame Traffic Safety and Parking Commission, including three terms as chair, according to his campaign profile on Ballotpedia. He also says he has served about five years on the Parks and Recreation Commission and about 15 years overseeing school bond spending.
Faber, listed as "Education Foundation Director," is president of the Burlingame Community for Education Foundation. According to her campaign website, she says she helped secure a $3.21 million grant for Burlingame Public Schools in the 2026-27 school year and led an effort beginning in 2024 to provide schools more than $3.4 million annually.
How to participate
The forum will be held in Council Chambers at 501 Primrose Road. Residents who cannot attend in person can join via Zoom using Meeting ID 820 7114 6608 and Passcode 965978.
