Burlingame's Library Board of Trustees will take up a new artificial intelligence grant project and take action on the Easton Branch air-conditioning project when it meets Tuesday, Sept. 15.

The five-member board, now chaired by Kerry Bitner, convenes at 5:30 p.m. in the Upper Level Conference Room at the Main Library, 480 Primrose Road. The meeting agenda lists seven items spanning unfinished and new business.

The Easton Branch air-conditioning project, which has been on the board's agenda since November 2025, returns as an action item. City Librarian Brad McCulley reported in a February librarian's report that the city's facilities division was waiting for the Building Department to approve a design and work plan before the project could go out to bid. Whether the project has advanced since then is not clear from public records. The Easton Branch is at 1800 Easton Drive.

A Lane Room renovation update also carries over as unfinished business. Both items appeared on the Aug. 18 agenda, which had no new business.

The Sept. 15 agenda adds five new-business items. An "A.I. Grant Project" discussion marks the board's second look at artificial intelligence after an initial AI discussion in March. The agenda does not name the grantor or the dollar amount.

Other new business includes a bronze plaque action item, an updated statistics dashboard, a report on a Future of Libraries Conference and planning for a holiday meet-and-greet with library staff.

Bitner is listed as chair on the Sept. 15 agenda. The board's June 16 agenda included an item to appoint a new chair for fiscal year 2026–27, though Palani was still listed as chair as of the Aug. 18 meeting. The exact date of the change to Bitner is unclear from public records. Palani remains a trustee alongside Mark Lucchesi, Uma Rao Krishnan and Jill Goldsmith.

Residents who want to weigh in can email [email protected] by 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, to have written comments included in the board's supplemental packet. Those attending in person may fill out a "Request to Speak" card and are limited to three minutes each.

The next regular Library Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20.
