The Burlingame School District has posted its board meeting calendar for the fall, with four public sessions scheduled between August and November. One meeting will be held at a different location than usual.

All four meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. with an open session, followed by a closed session. Here are the dates and locations:

  • Tuesday, August 11 — District office, 1825 Trousdale Dr.
  • Tuesday, September 8 — District office, 1825 Trousdale Dr.
  • Tuesday, October 13 — Burlingame Intermediate School auditorium, 1715 Quesada Way
  • Tuesday, November 10 — District office, 1825 Trousdale Dr.

The October 13 meeting moves to the BIS auditorium, which seats more people than the district office boardroom. The district has not stated a reason for the venue change.

The August 11 meeting falls eight days before the first day of school on Wednesday, August 19, a minimum day with noon dismissal for TK-5 students and 12:10 p.m. for Burlingame Intermediate School students.

Election context for fall meetings

The November 10 session comes one week after the Tuesday, November 3 election. Two items on that ballot will directly affect the district's direction.

The board voted 5-0 on Tuesday, June 9 to place a $100 million bond measure before voters, according to district records. If approved, it would levy $16 per $100,000 of assessed property value per year. The district's last bond, passed in March 2020, was $97 million at $25 per $100,000.

Voters will also elect two board members for Trustee Areas 1 and 4. Candidate filing opened Monday, July 13 and closes Friday, August 7, according to the San Mateo County Assessor-Clerk-Recorder's office. If an eligible incumbent does not file, the deadline extends to Wednesday, August 12.

The five-member board includes President Doug Brown, Katie Jay, Chaitanya Bhuskute, Nicole Mustafa, and Semonti Stephens. Superintendent Dr. Marla Silversmith leads the district, which serves approximately 3,300 students across eight schools.

Board agendas are posted at simbli.eboardsolutions.com. The candidate filing deadline for Trustee Areas 1 and 4 is Friday, August 7.
