Broadway is sounding like a jazz club this week.
Three free performances land in and around the Burlingame strip between Thursday and Tuesday, giving neighbors a reason to stroll the avenue after work.
The run starts Thursday, July 16, when the Swinging Scholars take the floor at OMarshall, Inc., 1199 Broadway, from 5 to 7 p.m. The monthly showcase, presented by OMarshall in partnership with the Peninsula's Jazz at the Ballroom, features local student musicians playing swing and jazz standards. The San Mateo Daily Journal's calendar listing describes it as free, all-ages, and family-friendly. OMarshall, the real estate firm that has operated at that Broadway address since 1959, opens its doors on the third Thursday of every month for the series.
Two days later, jazz pianist Denny Berthiaume brings a set to Broadway Grill, 1400 Broadway, on Saturday, July 18. Jazz Near You, which tracks Bay Area performances, lists the gig; no cover charge is listed.
Berthiaume returns Tuesday, July 21, a few blocks off Broadway at Max's of Burlingame, 1250 Old Bayshore Hwy, for a solo piano session from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The venue's listing is blunt: "Good Food. Good Music. 5:30–8:30. No Cover."
All events listed below are free and open to the public.
