The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office has filed five felony charges against a Fremont man accused of burglarizing a vacant home in Burlingame Hills.

The charges were filed Friday, July 24, and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office publicly announced the case Saturday, July 25.

David A. Brown, 41, faces counts of second-degree burglary, theft by use of access card information, identity theft, theft from an elder or dependent adult, and taking a vehicle without the owner's consent, according to the sheriff's office.

Brown's full name and the specific charges were not included in initial reports of his arrest.

The charges stem from a break-in at a home in the 100 block of Los Robles Drive in unincorporated San Mateo County. Deputies responded Friday, April 17, to a report that the home had been burglarized the night of Thursday, April 16. The homeowner had recently died and the residence was vacant at the time.

Personal property and a vehicle were stolen from the home.

How investigators identified Brown

The sheriff's office said investigators used surveillance footage and automated license plate reader data to place Brown at the Los Robles Drive address. He was arrested in Oakland on April 28 on unrelated charges. At the time of that arrest, investigators recovered the victim's stolen credit cards and other items linked to the Burlingame Hills case.

The sheriff's office said on X on Friday, July 24, that the investigation spanned three months and involved multiple Bay Area agencies, including the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, the Contra Costa County Probation Department, and the San Francisco Police Department.

Brown remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail in Alameda County. No court date has been publicly announced.

Possible connection to other burglaries

Investigators believe Brown may be connected to additional residential burglaries across the Bay Area, according to the East Bay Times. The sheriff's office is asking anyone with information to contact its detectives.

The Burlingame Hills neighborhood falls under the jurisdiction of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office rather than the Burlingame Police Department because it sits in unincorporated San Mateo County.
