Peninsula food lovers can taste dishes from at least 10 chefs without leaving the neighborhood. Heritage Fire, a traveling open-fire culinary festival that holds events in multiple U.S. cities, is coming to Coyote Point Recreation Area on Sunday, July 26, marking the event's first appearance at the waterfront park just across the border from Burlingame.
The all-inclusive feast runs from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at 1701 Coyote Point Dr. in San Mateo. Chefs will cook over open flame while guests sample bites, sip spirits and wines, and vote for their favorite dish. The chef who earns the most votes takes home the title of Heritage Hero and advances to a national grand finale in Greenville, S.C.
San Mateo County Parks announced the partnership on Monday, July 20, saying the agency wants to "find new opportunities to showcase one of San Mateo County's signature parks."
Who's cooking
The confirmed lineup includes Aaron Escalada of Abacá, Ajay Walia of Amara/RASA/Saffron, Chad Bayless of ROGER Bar & Restaurant, Chris Yang of Piglet & Co, Intu-on Kornnawong of Shoji, Matt Dolan of 25 Lusk, Michele DeSmet of Made Out Of Dough, Reem Assil of Reem's California, Saif Makableh of Mazra – Mediterranean BBQ, and Sergio Box and Toni Santanach of Macarena. Organizers say additional chefs may still join.
Napa Valley Vintners is a featured partner, with up to 20 vintners pouring guided tastings on site.

Two tiers are available through Tours by a21 at toursbya21.com:
- Early Entry (3:30–7 p.m.): $159 per person. Includes 45 minutes of exclusive access to a bourbon experience from Justin's House of Bourbon before general doors open.
- General Admission (4:15–7 p.m.): $109 per person.
All tickets are non-refundable. The event is restricted to guests 21 and older; a valid photo ID is required.
