A juvenile Hillsborough resident crashed an electric bicycle on Macadamia Drive on Friday, Sept. 25, prompting a police investigation that remains active.

Hillsborough Police Department officers responded around 3:47 p.m. after receiving a report of a collision between a bicyclist and a vehicle, the department said in a post on X. Officers who arrived on scene determined no other vehicles were involved. The incident was a solo crash.

The department has not released the rider's condition, age or other details about the circumstances.

In its post, the department urged cyclists and e-bike riders to wear safety equipment, stay aware of their surroundings and follow traffic laws. It also reminded drivers to watch for cyclists on the road.

The Town of Hillsborough highlighted e-bike safety in a July 2026 bulletin, sharing a USA Today op-ed by Hillsborough native and UCSF neurosurgeon Dr. Blake Taylor warning that e-bike injuries often resemble those seen in motorcycle crashes.
