The Hillsborough Recreation Commission will vote on a contract with American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Region 110 when it meets Monday, Sept. 21, at 5 p.m.
The meeting, at the Hillsborough City School District Collaboration Center at 300 El Cerrito Ave., carries four action items, according to the posted agenda. Along with the AYSO contract, commissioners are set to approve 2026-27 salary schedules for recreation staff, review 2025-26 unaudited financial actuals and authorize a lawn mower purchase.
No dollar figures or contract terms for the AYSO deal appear in the agenda. AYSO Region 110, based in Burlingame, runs youth soccer programs on fields at West School in Hillsborough. The commission has contracted with the league for years. Director Tony Giacomazzi described the AYSO facility as the commission's most expensive budget item at a May 2022 meeting. In May 2021, Business Manager Jeralyn Schoenherr reported that AYSO would return to pre-pandemic rates for the 2021-22 budget.
The salary schedule vote follows a pattern. In May 2025, commissioners unanimously approved 2024-25 and 2025-26 salary schedules at a 2.25% raise for non-seasonal staff, matching increases given to Hillsborough City School District employees. Whether the 2026-27 proposal follows the same approach is not specified in available documents.
The consent agenda includes reports on summer programs, fees and contractors, a Facilitron facilities-scheduling report, financial statements and a ground supervisor contract. Consent items pass without debate unless a commissioner, the executive director or a member of the public pulls one for discussion.
The commission also plans to review a corrected version of the 2026-27 budget originally approved May 4. The nature of the correction is not explained in the agenda.
Chair Sophie Cole and Vice-Chair An Huang Chen have led the commission since their election in March. Executive Director Ana de Arce runs the organization.
