Travelers and locals along Burlingame's Bayshore Highway hotel corridor have a new coffee stop: the Tap & Tavern Coffee Shop, operated by Philadelphia-based specialty roaster La Colombe, opened July 27 inside the Embassy Suites by Hilton San Francisco Airport Waterfront at 150 Anza Blvd.
The menu features espresso, lattes, cold brew, premium teas, signature drinks and a rotating Signature Drink of the Day, according to the Burlingame Chamber of Commerce, which announced the opening on X on July 31.
The shop sits inside the hotel's atrium. Customers can also take drinks outside for views of San Francisco Bay and SFO, which is about 1.9 miles away, according to the hotel's social media announcement previewing the opening.
A hotel-partnership concept
La Colombe, founded in 1994 by Todd Carmichael and JP Iberti in Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square neighborhood, has grown into one of the country's most recognized third-wave coffee brands. The company operates roughly 29 standalone café locations in cities including Los Angeles, San Diego, New York and Chicago.
Chobani founder Hamdi Ulukaya, who first purchased a stake in La Colombe in 2015, acquired the company outright in December 2023 for $900 million.
La Colombe has supplied hotels and fine-dining restaurants since opening its first full-scale roastery in Philadelphia in 1995. The Burlingame location appears to be a hotel-partnership concept rather than a standalone La Colombe café; the company's website does not list it among its retail locations.
Bayshore corridor addition
The hotel corridor along Bayshore Highway and Anza Boulevard houses several major properties near SFO. The Embassy Suites, a waterfront property with bay trail access, sits less than two miles from the airport and offers a complimentary shuttle.
The Tap & Tavern Coffee Shop is open to hotel guests and walk-in visitors. Hours have not been posted publicly.
