Burlingame High families will get a first look at new student test scores when the San Mateo Union High School District board meets Thursday, Sept. 24.
The centerpiece is a presentation on academic progress, including results from the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and the California Science Test (CAST). The presentation, titled "Spotlight on Student Learning," will also cover whether 10th graders are on track, according to the district's meeting agenda.
The specific scores have not been released publicly ahead of the meeting. The latest available district-wide CAASPP data, from the 2024-25 school year, showed 74% of SMUHSD students met or exceeded the state standard in English language arts and 51% in math, according to the district's annual school accountability report. Both figures were up from 71% and 47% the prior year.
Those numbers topped the statewide averages of 48.8% in ELA and 37.3% in math, according to the California Department of Education.
At Burlingame High, 81.4% of 11th graders in the Class of 2025 were rated "prepared" for college and career on the CAASPP, according to the school's 2026-27 profile. Another 8.1% scored "approaching prepared." The school enrolled 1,665 students for the 2026-27 school year with 85 teachers.
The board will also vote to approve a tentative agreement and salary schedule between the district and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), which represents classified staff. Deal terms have not been released.
A public hearing on textbook and instructional materials certification is also on the agenda, followed by a vote to adopt the textbook certification resolution. Other items include approval of a memorandum of understanding with San Jose State University and a public hearing on a reopener contract proposal with the Adult School Federation of Teachers.
Superintendent Randall Booker leads the 8,775-student district, which includes Burlingame High under new principal Lauren Kelly, who started July 1.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at 650 N. Delaware St. in San Mateo. Residents can also join by Zoom (Webinar ID: 955 8452 1141, Passcode: 995656) or submit comments by email to [email protected].
