The week's biggest milestone: school is back.

Wednesday, Aug. 19 marks the first day of classes for the Burlingame Elementary School District's 2026-27 year. Students at Burlingame Intermediate School report at 8:40 a.m. The Burlingame Community for Education Foundation, celebrating its 45th anniversary, is backing the new year with its largest-ever grant of $3.21 million to the district.

"There's always something exciting about the first day of school, but this year feels especially meaningful," BCE Co-President Pooja Shah said in an Aug. 12 foundation post. "We're welcoming new families, celebrating 45 years of BCE, and kicking off another year of coming together to support our schools."

As we reported Aug. 14, BCE's New Families team created a printable First Day of School Board for kids to fill in personal facts and snap a photo. Families can share pictures on Instagram tagging @BCEFoundation and #BCEFirstDay.

Live music later this month

Musician Larry Chinn returns to Max's of Burlingame, 1250 Old Bayshore Hwy, on Monday, Aug. 24, at 6 p.m., according to Patch's community calendar. Chinn has been a recurring performer at the venue throughout the summer.

On Friday, Aug. 28, Groovy Judy plays a solo set at Town Square, 220 Park Road, at 4 p.m.

BHS Theatre hosts a play Monday

Burlingame High School Theatre has a staged play scheduled for Monday, Aug. 17, at 5 p.m. The title and ticket details have not been announced publicly; residents should check with the school for specifics.

What's ahead

Healthy Horizons Peninsula Breastfeeding Center, at 1432 Burlingame Ave, offers an online Back to Work Breastfeeding & Pumping Class on Thursday, Sept. 3, at noon. Information is available at (650) 347-6455.
