Drivers who use Skyline Boulevard should expect lane closures and delays starting Wednesday, Sept. 9, as Caltrans begins repaving a two-mile stretch of State Route 35 near the San Mateo County line.

The project covers SR-35 from the county line north to Sloat Boulevard in San Francisco. Crews will remove a thin layer of existing asphalt and lay down a new rubberized surface, according to the Caltrans project page. The work also includes repairing damaged pavement, refreshing lane striping and replacing traffic detector loops embedded in the road.

Work begins at 8 p.m. Wednesday on the southbound side near Sloat Boulevard and will move south through the corridor toward the San Mateo County line.

Caltrans said in a Sept. 3 press release the project will continue through mid-October. All work is weather dependent.

Closure schedule

Lane closures will run on different schedules depending on direction, according to the Caltrans project page. On the northbound side, closures are planned from 8 p.m. to 3 p.m. the following day on weekdays. Southbound closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekday nights, with additional daytime closures from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Weekend work is also planned. Northbound closures run from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturdays and 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. on Sundays. Southbound closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Saturdays and 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. on Sundays.

At least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times, according to the Caltrans project page.

Caltrans said closure times may change and that the agency will post detour information before construction begins.

Caltrans said the project will repair failed pavement and improve ride quality for drivers in both directions.
